05/02/2010 "Being a Great American Grad means making learning a lifelong activity. Starting college at the age of 50 years old was one of the most challenging and rewarding things I have ever done. After ten years of struggle, I received my Bachelor's degree. Since that time, I have continued to share my knowledge with others by teaching at a junior college and by being a docent at the St. Louis Art Museum. Passing the idea on to others that education can be attained by anyone at any age has been my advice to all. Presently, at the age of 78, I am still learning each and every day." |

05/02/2010 "I persevered and made it through high school during bad economic times and multiple setbacks and that makes me a great American graduate. The biggest reason that I am a great American graduate is because I know where I come from and I know where I am going. I come from the greatest country in the world. Leaving from a great educational institution, I will now be moving on in life to do bigger and better things. In order to pursue my dreams, I will go to college to get an education. Knowing where I want to get in life, I am not ashamed to receive money from organizations such as this to get as much money as possible to afford the college of my choice. I am great because I know then when I graduate I will go on to help someone else in the world to pursue their dreams." |

05/02/2010 "A great american graduate is anyone who takes out the time to achieve there goals. There are many obstacles that can hinder you from your goal and I am indeed a living witness. Anyone can start something but it takes great people to finish what has been started. Thoroughout all the trials and tribulations, regardless of what others think or say about you, rise above all odds and do what needs to be done. The excitment of winning a battle is what makes a great american graduate." |

05/02/2010 "I think I am an Great American Grad because education has always been really important to me so $5000 would really help further my education. I really want to be a photographer in the future and the art academy I'm going to be attending is very expensive but following my dream will be so worth it in the end. I am a very helpful person and think about others before myself so I think I deserve this money for my future. That is why I think I am a Great American Grad :)" |

05/02/2010 "I am hearing impaired since age two and had to go to school at the age of three because of my disability. It has been a long journey but I learned so many things in school. So many people thought I would not make it in a mainstream class but I prove to them that I can do it. I also got involved in clubs and help out the needy. My parents are very proud that I I got accepted to go to college to Austin. I have a goal to finish my degree in college and come back and visit my elementary school to tell the deaf kids that just because they have a disability that shoud not stop them from persuing their dreams. I am glad that I had the opportunity to get a good education and help others . I only hope that I continue to help more deaf students in my lifetime. I hope I get to be selected as a Great American Grad. to help me out in my fiancial need in college." |

05/02/2010 "Having recently been rendered redundant (by my blithering, blatherskite ex-boss), I recognize that a return to recapture rudimentary and required readiness skills, entail enrolling and excelling in post-grad education. I crave a cool new career in criminal justice -- where I'll capture chronic crooks and other corruptors complicit in conspiracies or cookie capers. Unfortunately, fulfilling this fine feat involves infinitely increased income in order to tender tripling tuition.
So, I've purposefully pinched pennies and pounded the pavement pursuing a panacea of positions, realizing that resourcefulness, resilience and self-reliance, are routinely rewarded. Suffice it to say, steadiness and a self-satisfied smack to the back signals that success is a Snickerdoodle away. In short, to the gaggle of go-getters getting it done, I gladly give a genuine "good luck" from this future Great American Grad!" |

05/02/2010 "I know I am a Great American Grad! I have attended The University of Texas at Tyler for the past two years in the nursing program. I am officially graduating as an RN this May, and I am beyond thrilled! Nursing is the profession I have wanted to be in my entire life and I could not be happier to get into the workplace and finally help others as an RN. I feel so rewarded when I am able to provide compassionate care to patients. I feel that nursing as a career is one of the greatest American careers you can be in. It is so fulfilling and pays off when you see patients get well. Being able to help people is truly the most rewarding gift of all time, and as a new graduate, I know I will contribute a lot to our great American country! It would be a great honor, as a new graduate in a new career, to be selected as the Great American Grad, because I know I could definitely live up to the title!" |

05/02/2010 "This fall I will be attending Oxford College of Emory University. Attending this university has been a dream of mine for years. Everyone in my family has gone to college and pursued excellent careers. I am the odd ball. I have never excelled the way my siblings have in school but I do try my best to make my parents proud. I felt that going to Oxford of Emory would be my first step to success. I have maintained a 3.7 GPA and I am involved in community service at my church and school. I participate in activities such as Chorus, Beta Club and International Club. I hope to become a Dentist one day and want to prove to my family that I can do it. I can proudly say that The Great American Cookie Company has helped me accomplish this goal. I worked with this company for seven months which enabled me to save money for college. This was my first job and I dedicated a lot of my time into it. For many people it is difficult to attend a private institution because of financial issues, but I got a chance! I really am a Great American Grad!" |

05/01/2010 "I think my desire to make a better life for me and my family makes me a great American Grad. I am the child of two parents that did not graduate high school. I decided when both my parents were incarcerated that I was going to make a difference in this world. At that time, I made up my mind that I would graduate high school and go on to college. My dream is to one day become a registered nurse." |

05/01/2010 "I'm a Great American Grad because I'm accomplishing things people have told me I couldn't do. Even my parents and friends doubted me. I'm not the perfect student or do tons of community service, but I always make sure I pursue my dreams. When I moved from New Orleans public schools to Houston because of Hurricane Katrina no one thought I'd be anything, now those people are congratulating me on my acceptance to Notre Dame." |

05/01/2010 "What makes you a Great American Grad anyway? Is it your high school reputation, you GPA, or whether or not you're valedictorian? Those are very important, believe me! But as graduates we're taking a lot more from our high schools than just our diplomas. We're taking away real life experiences that will continue to influence us and the decisions we make for many years. But there is something more important than even that. We are also leaving behind our example. We, as the 2010 graduating class, are paving the way for the next generation of graduates. We are responsible to take what we have learned, and make the world a better place for the next generation. I believe this is what makes me a Great American Grad. I'm planning on going to Bible college this fall. I believe in taking up the torch, running ahead with it, and then passing it on the next generation when it's their turn." |

04/30/2010 "Not many people can say that they work for the Great American Cookie Company, but I can and proudly do! I have worked for the Great American Cookie Company for over a year and still enjoy my job. I am the definition of a Great American Grad because I carry a part-time job working for the Great American Cookie Company, play varsity softball for my high school, and also have a 3.8 GPA in school. I am a member of many organizations including: Beta Club, National Honors Society, and others. I will be graduating in June with these honors and more and plan to further my education by striving to become a Physical Therapist. I have set goals and have learned how to balance a hectic life and understand what it takes to be a Great American Grad, which I believe I am." |

04/30/2010 "When I discovered this fantastic scholarship opportunity, I admit I had to ask myself: What makes a Great American Graduate so great? Is it their accomplishments? Is it their status in life? Their plans for the future? Their character? Sure, I've got a high GPA and I'll be graduating at the top of my class in May, but I don't think that makes me all that great. Money has never been a commodity at home, but my meager situation doesn't make me any greater. I plan on becoming a music educator, to keep the arts alive in schools across the nation, but I'm still not sure this fact puts me ahead of all the other competitive graduates. My character is sound, I help with Missions, I respect my peers and elders, I take care of my responsibilities, I'm trustworthy, I even hold the door for others, but it still doesn't make me a Great American Grad. However, in my opinion the combination of all of these factors, working hard toward a goal despite financial hardships, while maintaining a bright, optimistic character, does make me a Great American Graduate, and I know I have a lot to offer the world in the very near future." |

04/30/2010 "“People would always make fun of me because I wanted to be a teacher. And for a while I began to look for something else I wanted to be, but I always came back to teaching. It wasn't until I was a sophomore in high school that I started telling everyone what I wanted to be. I come from a family that didn’t go to college let alone go to college, they have always told me to go to college and be something better then they are. I never could be something better than my family it's just not possible. What makes me a Great American Grad is I’m not top five or ten in my class I’m just a regular B+ student that never gives up and keeps trying even if I fail, I always have a bright side to everything and I’m not afraid to ask for help when I need it. I’m helpful to those who need it. Well I try =]. I know this scholarship will help me fulfill my dreams of becoming a teacher. I want to be able to help kids reach their goals just like my teachers have helped me reach mine." |

04/30/2010 "When I hear the words great american grad I think of what this country was founded on. Hard work and backbone. Graduating college is my dream. I have attended Capital University for the last two years. I have worked in the Community Service and Leadership Office during those two years because I feel that in order to be a true american you have to help others. I pay for college on my own and worked 40-60 hours a week in high school to save up for it. I have recently had to make a decision of whether to stay in school or drop out. With no one helping me with my tuition it has become very difficult to achieve my dream, which I feel is the american dream. This scholarship would help me do that. I think that everyone deserves to have a chance to achieve their dreams, all I am asking is for that chance. Thank you and good luck in your decision making process." |

04/29/2010 "I feel I am a Great American Grad because I employed all of the characteristics of a great American while working towards my degree. My hard work, tenacity, and sense of humor have all helped me with my success. I have worked to support myself while I attended school, often working full time jobs while still juggling full course loads. At times I have envied my friends who have not had to work while attending school, but I know that I will be able to handle whatever life throws my way. I can roll with the punches and make the best of any situation. Student loans may haunt me for years, but I know my education is worth it! While other students graduate and look to finding their first jobs, I feel confident in knowing I have already been exposed to the “real world” and can't wait to see what opportunities arise for me after college. Oh, and did I mention I love cookies? :)" |

04/28/2010 "I am a Great American Grad. Throughout high school I have worked hard and have done very well for myself. Over the last four years, I have been the drum major of the high school band, President of the National Honor Society, a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and a participant in several sports. The sports in which I have participated are football, soccer, track, and cross country. I am currently fifth in my high school class with a 96.9 GPA. In college, I will be majoring in mathematics to obtain my teaching certification, allowing me to teach math and coach a variety of sports in a small school. I want to share my love for math, sports and "Double Doozies" with kids in the secondary education level. I could really use the money for all of my upcoming college expenses." |

04/28/2010 "With all that I am involved in (Academic teams, extracurricular activities, internships), I still find time to give back to the community. Given a chance, I will work tirelessly to improve the planet and the people who depend on it.
As a member of the Debate team, I have been very successful, achieving Best Speaker Honors for my league as a junior and winning the English Department Speech Award in the process. With all of the awards I has received, I am proudest of being picked as class 'Teacher's Pet" my senior year.
This summer I will be working full time while starting college early. I have been accepted to the college I want to go to, but I simply do not have the money for it. Unfortunately, my parents cannot help me pay for my education. I am determined to pay for college and have applied to over 200 scholarships. I am the Great American Grad because I am living the American dream; working tirelessly and succeeding." |

04/28/2010 "My name is Tammy and I am writing this for my beautiful daughter, Lacey Jackson. She will be graduating from high school in May with honors. She is just as great on the inside as she is on the outside. She is always doing stuff for other people and puts herself last. She loves her country and has several family members who have been in the armed forces and is very thankful for what they have given for their country. I think she is a Great American Grad." |

04/28/2010 "I am a Great American Grad because I work very hard in school and outside of school. I have received high honors all through high school. When I am not at school I am either working, doing homework, or attending activities for the many clubs I am involved in. I am the president of the Spanish Club and Diversity Council, Vice President of the National Honor Society, Editor of the Yearbook, and I was captain of the swim team in the fall. All of these activities keep me busy but I also have a part time job that I work at to earn money for college. I have to pay for college by myself so I work very hard. I would really appreciate to receive this scholarship because it would help me pay for the substantial costs of college. In the fall I will be attending the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point. There I will be majoring in Elementary Education." |

04/27/2010 "I believe that I am a Great American Grad because I balanced school, sports, and service throughout high school. I am graduating from Anamosa High School this year with a 4.10 GPA on a 4.0 scale. I believe that the hard work I put into school is reflected in my GPA. I also was active in athletics and extra-curriculars. In high school, I was a 4-sport athlete, and a two-time cross country MVP. I was the editor on the school newspaper and also was a state qualifier in speech and math club. Even though school and sports are important, I feel my most important contribution to my community was my service. This year, I was a National Honor society officer. For NHS, I organized a blood drive, a house painting, and a drug awareness week. I also went on a service trip to Kansas City with some of my high school friends. I think the combination of my work in school, sports, and service in high school makes me a Great American Grad. And if can’t get the scholarship? I’d definitely settle for a free cookie." |

04/27/2010 "I know i am a Great American Grad!! Having been working at GACC since i have been 16 years old i know the importance of responsibility. Through the years i have come to graduating high school and from there going into nursing. A little after, i have manage to have a little girl, get married, go back to school, and still manage to work with this company. Making sure it was my destiny to finish college, working here has taught me the importance of life as a whole. Not many companys will allow you to know that school is very important and it comes first. For that i am grateful to know that Great American Cookie have help me come through this." |

04/27/2010 "I remember Great American Cookie Company cookie cakes being part of all my graduations, and for that matter, many of my special occasions and milestones. I’m now 33 years old and will be adding another major milestone (and cookie cake) to that list with my graduation from law school. This addition and longstanding tradition is what makes me a Great American Grad. On May 22, I will enjoy all the pomp and circumstance that accompanies the hooding ceremony and that walk across the stage to receive my Juris Doctor degree. This accomplishment is especially meaningful to me because I had to balance full time employment, my family, and a household with the rigorous requirements of law school. I went back to school after being in the full time workforce for years to pursue my dream of becoming a lawyer. I am delighted to to check off one of my lifelong goals and begin an exciting new career as an attorney. I believe that doing so makes me a Great American Grad!" |

04/27/2010 "I am a Great American Grad because I have managed to play sports all year round and maintain a 3.74 GPA with a very challenging, AP schedule. I have been a varsity thrower for the indoor and outdoor track and field teams as well as a starting varsity goalie for the soccer team. Along with being a student athlete, I volunteer with the local hospital and my school over the summer. Being a volunteer has helped me with gaining hours for the National Honor Society which I am president of. I am part of many other clubs around school including Drug Free Club, STEP Club, Gold Rush, Junior Tutor, and Senior Mentor. Over the summer while I am not volunteering, I am a lifeguard at the local pool making sure everyone is safe. I am a Great American Grad in more ways than one." |

04/27/2010 "I am a great grad because I have managed my time well in order to become a successful student and athlete. I am a two year starter on the football team, and lettered three times in track and field. I am an honor student who carried a 3.7 grade point average, and I am the secretary of the senior student council. I worked on these activities as well as completing the requirements for earning my Eagle Scout project through the Boy Scouts of America. I am involved in my parish’s youth group and work on service projects with them. I umpire little league baseball games, referee CYO basketball and I also have my own lawn care business all of which is helping to fund my college education." |

04/27/2010 ""Myriad of college credits," "I'm in NHS." Those are all nice but speak little of one's character. Not to say that I don't meet those things but a Great American Grad is someone more. I dream, dream to be the future to lead those and to help those around me. I'll major in Biology this coming year and I do so with the goal of helping others. I would love to be a doctor. The sick and the weary, those who need help. Everyone deserves to see someone who cares for them. I refuse to be a chocolate chip cookie like many are comparing themselves to, that's boring. I want to create my own recipe, I'm not digging in the past to recreate another person's accomplishments. I've worked my way through high school and plan to do so again in college. It’s my work that has put me where I am today and I look forward to moving forward. It’s what you do that counts." |

04/27/2010 "Perhaps you came to this website craving cookies, but who are you really inside yourself? Sometimes I feel like the Great American Cookie we all want to be. Enormous in reputation, proud, rich, immense, powerful. But I want more "chocolate chips", if you will. College is the method to acquiring this madness--a madness we all must possess to succeed. I want the cookie of college to crumble at my mere glance. I want to devour it, to reel at the sugar shock, but come away a satisfied man. This contest...if you could only know...means to me more than cookies, more than America. I will become in international entity in my life and cookies will be championed in a way that they've never been. They will be worshipped like the aliens were in Egypt. But college is the first step. A nice, small, liberal arts college somewhere on the east coast. Mom and dad will be proud. I love you." |

I think am planning on going to MCTC in the fall. Hope you consider me. Thank you!" |

04/27/2010 "I believe my son is a Great American Grad because he is a good student, plays baseball, is a good friend , an excellent roll model to his younger brothers, and a caring son. He is going to college to play baseball and become an upstanding young man in the communications field. He is always there for his friends and is very supportive to his brothers. He helps around the house, runs errands, and keeps up with baseball, school and other activites with no complaints." |

04/27/2010 "What is it that nearly all school kids look forward to? Summer vacation? Maybe; after all, everyone needs a break. But there is something more to look forward to in the high school graduation. Mandatory school is over; now choices have to be made. Should you stay near home, get a permanent job, maybe start a family? Or are you called in a different direction? Perhaps you wish to become a teacher, a lawyer, or something else that requires further training. I, myself, want to attend a Bible college in Missouri. I think the knowledge I will gain will help me for the rest of my life. Afterwards, I may pursue a culinary education. I love to cook, especially bake, and find it rewarding to make an old favorite, or something new, for friends and family. Maybe I will work full-time in the ministry and cook on the side. Perhaps I will be a restaurant chef, a camp cook, or simply a stay-at-home mom. I do not know, but I hope I will be able to fulfill the purpose that I was intended to." |

04/26/2010 "On May 13, 2010, I will accomplish a lifelong dream of mine. I will walk across a stage in Thompson-Boling Arena at the University of Tennessee and accept a B.S. in Human Ecology. I have never wanted to attend any school other than the University of Tennessee, and now my dream of graduating from one of the top schools in the nation is finally coming true. I will begin graduate school at UT in June and with graduate courses along with a year-long internship, I will complete my Master's degree in Early Childhood Education by August, 2011. I have always wanted to be a teacher and with my Master's in Early Childhood Education from UT, I will be able to enter my classroom with confidence, knowing that I have a solid education and an abundance of experience to support me. One of the most important aspects of a good teacher is to model desired behavior for students so they know how to complete the action themselves. I know that I can make a difference in the lives of children for years to come, by modeling the hard-working actions and attitude of a "Great American Grad"." |

04/25/2010 "“Daddy! Daddy, can I put on your doctor coat?” was a question I asked frequently when I was young. I treasured to distinguish myself as a doctor in the mirror with my father’s white coat on. I would see my dreams fulfilled and just imagine that I am a doctor.
Unfortunately, my father has diabetes. I promised my precious father a cure for diabetes. I want to become a successful doctor and cure my patients. I want to serve the community. Helping people is my goal and the achievement of curing someone satisfies me.
From the very beginning I have been working to reach my goals. I have taken Medical Science 1, Honors Medical Science Two, Anatomy and Physiology, and Sport Med. I am currently taking Parenting and Child Development and Sociology. Everyone has their strengths and mine is in the medical field. I have had the highest average in almost all these classes and I truly enjoy the medical field. I understand medical terminology. I am CPR certified and I know how to check vital signs. I am proficient with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and the Internet. I speak two languages, which are English and Urdu.
I was equipped to surpass the expectations by joining clubs. I was in HOSA, Student Council and Science Olympiad. I am currently a member of National Honor Society. I have received numerous trophies, medals, ribbons, and certificates. I have won two first place medals in the regional Science Olympiad competition. I have a Drug Abuse Resistance Education Medal and a President’s Education award for outstanding Academic Achievement. I have participated in community service and in volunteering. I helped in the blood drive at our school and the H1N1 vaccinations. I also did CIS vision screening and I was one of the few chosen to perform the vision screening on students.
I am hardworking, considerate of others, and willing to learn. I am determined to become a doctor and I will overcome any obstacle in my path. My dream motivates me to be successful. I will acquire my own white coat with my name on it. I believe in myself and I will earn my degree and that is why I am a “Great American Grad.”" |

Graduation is a beginning of the process---a process which turned me into a lifelong learner. I am a great American Grad because I realized that graduation is only the beginning. Life is full of opportunity, challenges, miracles and love. Open your mind and your heart and dive into your life with a smile on your face! Graduation is the start of something big!" |

04/25/2010 "Besides the fact that I can really use $5000, I think I make the Greatest American Grad because of my realization that in life, a great grad will never stop graduating. And in my life I have failed several times and there will be more to come. However I triumph overall. Graduation is an appreciation of hard work. What better way to appreciate something than to have struggled through it. Today I hope to graduate through my first month with my new business located inside a mall next to Great American Cookies." |

04/25/2010 "Graduation is nearing and I reflect back on what I have done in high school; have tried my hardest to make good grades, spent an extra year in high school because I was an exchange student, and have taken several college classes in order to most effectively pursue the career of my dreams. I want to become a doctor/medical researcher and know that this will take a lot of determination, but my desire to help people outweighs the time and energy I will spend on pursuing a medical career. I would be very appreciative if awarded as a Great American Grad, because well… I am one smart cookie, and I would use the dough I received to pay for college." |

04/25/2010 "I am a great American grad because for as long as can remember I’ve worked very hard to pursue a degree as well as career in Culinary and Pastry Arts. Next spring, I will graduate with an Associate’s degree and I will be the first out three generations to have one. I’m also the youngest of six and the only one that has gone to college. I’m 24 years of age and I was in foster care for 4 years of my life. It took me a while to get on my feet, being on my own was tough and was extremely difficult to be able to afford going to school. After I was released from the state’s care, I work hard every day to reach my goals which include being a full time student, working full time, and also giving back to the foster care organization by speaking to young adults in my community and giving them advice on how they can better themselves after getting out from the states care. Even though it may be tough at times, I will never give up. I plan to open my own pastry shop one day and see my customers happy with the pastry I have made and created on my own. I believe I’m a great American Grad because I work hard and will continue to work hard no matter what the situation is to get where I want to be in life." |

04/25/2010 "One of my goals in life is to leave everyone I interact with better off because they met me. I have been successful in my current career, but incapable of impacting peoples’ lives in a meaningful way. While pursing my first degree I was unsure of the means through which I should contribute to society. Over the next year I will complete a second degree, an intensive Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and become a Registered Nurse. In this capacity I will be able help people through medical support, care, and education. I expect to have a great impact on many individuals. Patients will benefit from my ability to address their needs, physicians will be able to trust my performance, and families will benefit from the support I provide them. My long-term goals include graduate school and playing a role in the instruction of future nurses. I plan to give others the ability to pursue happiness and am striving to lead a more rewarding life while helping others. Changing careers in pursuit of happiness is terrifying and exciting. I am living the American dream and that makes me one of the many Great American Grads." |

04/23/2010 "I’ve been out of High School for two years, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life but I knew that that it needed to involve a camera. I’ve been obsessed with capturing moments in time since I was about ten years old and I love all cameras and every single aspect of photography. I woke up one morning after having a dream that I was a photography teacher and that’s when it hit me! Why didn’t I think of this years ago? I get to do what I love and spread knowledge about my passion. My main focus will be to teach darkroom photography for sake of keeping the film world from collapsing and becoming completely digitalized. I want the world to remember where photography originated! Some of the most influential and famous photographs were taken with film and I can’t just let that disappear. This is my life and I want to share it with everyone that I possibly can. And I want to keep reaching out, giving hope, and helping people express themselves even if it’s as simple as taking a picture. Just like The Great American Cooke Company does with their treats!" |

04/23/2010 "I am entering my fiance, Alex Lewis. He has worked his way through Pharmacy School at WVU studying day and night while also taking care of me and our daughter. I had a high-risk pregnancy at the start of our engagement and he balanced my needs and doctor appointments with the high demands of his doctoral degree. He graduates this Spring 2010 and has sacrificed time with his friends, family and pharmacy school friends to provide me and his baby girl. He's the most loving and selfless person I know. I would love for him to win this so he can see that his hard work has paid off. Thank you for taking the time to consider him!" |

04/23/2010 "In the past two years I've participated in several competitions for Business Professionals of America and was a state qualifier; a youth legislative program for the National Hispanic Institute; I've won first place in my local fair cooking competition; I'm also part of the National Technical Honors Society; I'm also extremely involved in my computer animation class in and outside of school. I've accomplished all of this while maintaining a steady job. I'm a hard worker and have a desire to succeed. Neither of my parents went to college and not going to college isn't an option. I would love to be considered for this scholarship and would be more than grateful to receive it." |

04/23/2010 "When I first opened this email, I could not believe there was a scholarship this perfect for me. Seeing this scholarship gave me the same feeling of joy I receive from walking down the living room stairs, and seeing that big red Cookie Cake box on my Birthday waiting for me sitting on the kitchen table.
I would make a Great American Cookie Grad because ever since high school I have over worked myself with graduating high school in three years, attending community college as a film major right after high school, and volunteering around my community. I qualify as a Great Grad and know that my hard work has paid off for an opportunity like this one.
These $5,000 would help so much with tuition, fees, housing, and advancing my career in film. I have been accepted into my film school in Los Angeles and need all the help I can get. I have already applied for loans, and even though I do not want to be a student in debt, I have no choice but to owe money or hope I can receive a scholarship as beneficial as the Great American Cookie Grad Scholarship." |

04/23/2010 "The recipe is simple but you won’t find it in just any ole cook book. It consists of three parts hard work and determination, a pinch of playful spunk, two handfuls of a carefree spirit, a dash of intellect seasoned with a vision and a whole lot of enthusiasm. Bake at 350 degrees for twelve minutes until golden and round. Serve with a tall glass of success and your Great American Grad is the perfect complete to a satisfying life. Make no mistake; each ingredient was selected with precision and care. Determination to exemplify my attitude and commitment. A playful spice to emphasize a personal affection for my education and my community. The vision and intellect flavor my taste for the future. Enthusiasm to signify the amount of heart and soul I put into everything I do. These twelve minutes in the oven pass like twelve years of educational enrichment. Each minute advances the morsel closer to perfection. Each year my fortitude drives me closer to achievement. Convectional warmth is replaced by my bright future. There is no doubt the circular shape personifies my well rounded manner. I am the cookie. I am the Great American Grad." |

04/22/2010 "What makes a Great American Grad? There are a few things that make a Great American one of these is helping out in your community. I feel with my involvement in the FFA, High Schools against Cancer, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes I am go Great American Grad. Our FFA chapter is the best in community service in South Dakota and one of the top chapters in the nation. Our Fellowship of Christian Athletes group does numerous community service projects throughout our community. We help elderly with raking leaves and scooping snow, serve benefit pancake breakfasts. In out high School against Cancer group we raise money for the Relay for Life and sell Luminaries to honor those who have passed away from cancer. Another reason I am a Great American Grad is because I put everything I have into my school and if I put everything into it I am happy with what I get if I know it is my best. These are only a few of the ways to be a Great American Grad; people can be a Great American Grad no matter what the do as long as they believe they are." |

04/22/2010 "What makes me a Great American Grad? Well, many things actually, but one thing in particular. I am a Great American Grad becuase I want to do something pretty cool; I want to be a marine biologist.
Why is this so cool? Well, I live in Missour, which is no where near any ocean what so ever. Plus, I don't just want to study marine life, I also want to help teach others about marine life and the ocean. I think that teaching people about the marine environment and marine life will help make the world a better place.
These are the reasons I am a Great American Grad!" |

04/22/2010 "What would make me a Great American Grad?. Well i'm going to tell you about a few things that have made me feel like i made a huge accomplish in life. Somethings in my life that have helped me accomplish through school would be my family, friends and most importantly GOD. Without having someone close to you for support is like not having anyone to care or love for you at all. I have been through so much in my life from middle school on, that i am actually proud of myself for getting this far in life. Knowing how much my parents and friends supported me helped out so much. Now if i could win something as special as this, it would be a miracle, especially since too much is going on with everyone right now. I'm very glad to know that since i've made it through all the troubles this far that i can have the new oppurtunities like this to live a life now. If i could become a Great American Grad since this is my senior year i would prove that God, family and friends are the many important things in life." |

04/22/2010 "Why Makes You A Great American Grad?
I am a great American grad because my Dad loves cookies, plain and simple! Yes I hope to go on from High School and get a degree as a history teacher, and help kids see into their past as a way to more clearly see their future, and I hope my life is significant and makes a difference in the lives of others, but what makes me a great American grad? Family, of course!
I have come to cherish the times we actually got my Dad to the mall, and inevitably he would head for the Great American Cookie Company and buy us our favorite treat, however we all knew he was being so generous because he loves cookies. But he also loved to be part of our lives, and he loved to watch our faces as we looked long and hard at the choices that would make-up our final selection.
Now, on the precipice of my own life, I realize what he was teaching us. He was teaching us how to make choices, patience, the consequences of our decisions, but mostly he was teaching us what it meant to be a family and how precious spending time together was." |

04/21/2010 "I believe that I am a “Great American Grad” for several reasons. I am 23 years old and am graduating college with a Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources. I graduated high school in 2005 and have attended college 5 years straight, taking no semesters off. In these five years, I have had the joy of getting married and having three beautiful daughters. My daughters are now 3, 1, and 5 months. I have not let starting a family hold me back in any way. I believe that having my children has inspired me to work harder. I look at them and that motivates me to work hard and finish school in order to make their lives better in the future. So many people get held back from their dreams and I have made sure that nothing stopped me from fulfilling my goals and living the America dream! I am so excited to be graduating and start a full-time career as well as start grad school in another year. I hope that my children never let anything stop them from achieving their goals. That is why I am a “Great American Grad!!!”" |

04/21/2010 "Being the Great American Grad would be an honor. Graduation is almost here and I have gone thru four years of High School like it was just freshmen year. I have watched my friends come and go, some taken way too early in this world not even having the chance to succeed and make a difference. I have learned not to take things for granted because one day they are here and the next you never know. My parents have taught me to give and sometimes to receive to respect and be thankful for all the things we have in our life. My dad travels many months just to support us. I have been accepted at Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Academy in patisserie and baking and will start in August of 2010. With the knowledge and skills that I will be taught I hope that I will become a wonderful pastry chef being able to help and cook for an assortment of people and one day maybe owing my own bakery and giving the Great American Grad back to someone else who would be honored as much as I would if I were to be chosen for this great gift." |

04/21/2010 ""I am the Great American Grad"! I have celebrated most of my 18 birthdays with my all time favorite "double decker" cookie cakes!!!
Not to mention all the soccer, baseball, basketball, gymnastics & school parties where I always request the Great American Cookies for dessert.
For the past two summers, I have worked in the summer program of Lufkin ISD'S special education department. My role has been a student support person in the Preschool Program for children with Disabilities (PPCD). These three and four year olds have significant handicapping disabilities ranging from cognitive to physical. During these summers, I have watched as occupational and physical therapists come into the classrooms and offer therapy to these children and realized the importance of the work the specialists and the program that results. This is the reason I plan to pursue a degree in Biology at Texas A & M University in preparation to obtain a master's degree in occupational therapy. Recognizing this plan will take me longer to reach my goals I have been taking summer and concurrent courses at the local community college, Angelina College allowing me to enter the university setting with enough credits to almost rank as a sophomore.
Family legacy, life goals, determination and responsibility have shaped me into a student with purpose and dedication." |

04/21/2010 "I am the next GREAT AMERICAN GRAD because I am involved in as many extracurricular activities as possible and always try to stay involed in school and community opportunities. I have been a "Big" in the Big Brothers/ Big Sisters program for two years and enjoy being a positive influence on my "Little" and her friends. I am maintaining a 3.75 GPA and am a proud member of the National Honor Society, Teen Leadership Club (Vice-President), Green Thumb Club (Captain), Student Council (Officer) and a 4- year varsity volleyball player and captain. I also have been playing competitive soccer in the spring for about 10 years. I enjoy participating in fundraisers and try to get others involved too. As the 2009 Football Homecoming Queen, I am also a great supporter of the sports at my high school. It would mean the world to me to be the next GAG! :)" |

04/21/2010 "I am saving up to go to graduate school so that I can get my masters as a pediatric nurse practitioner. I want to take care of critically ill and injured kids admitted to the ICU after a traumatic event; helping heal their bodies and minds. In addition, I want to help support parents and other family members through these tough times of the unknown. An injured or sick child can be devastating to a family and as a nurse practitioner I will make sure kids and their families get the best care." |

04/21/2010 "Great American Cookies meet your Great American Grad! A woman who is as sweet as a cookie. A woman who is as friendly as a greeting to a neighbor. I am a woman who is as determined as a student to graduate or a customer who is waiting in line, ready to taste Great American Cookies. It takes the right ingredients to form the best recipe of cookies. It takes the right path to follow in order to graduate, and in three years, I will have a bachelor's degree in Architecture and Advertising. What makes me a Great American Grad is not based on grades, amount of work, or ability to network. There are times when I don't think I can pull off anymore than one good thing. I learned that a good thing does not have to be the size of a graduating class. A good thing can be the size of one cookie. That is a taste that only Great American Cookies can satisfy. My one good thing is entering this contest." |

04/20/2010 "What makes me a Great American Grad? I could sit here all day, coming up with a plethora of reasons as to what makes this question true. Most of the entries I have seen emphasize the things that the applicants have accomplished; It's not always about what you have done, but rather what you plan to do. I've always wanted to help people, It's something that comes naturally to me. With my friendly and assertive personality I have been able to provide assistance to those who I believe needed it. With the scholarship money from this contest I plan on earning my degrees in Psychology and Social work in order to help all those who most need it. By providing assistance to those in need I aim to become a moral driven, and valuable member of society. Remember, It's not about what you have done, but what you aim to do." |

04/20/2010 "I believe I am a great american grad. I am very diverse in school. I am a two time varsity football captain, also a team captain for b-team track, and participated in regular track. I'm also the two time captain for the Green Man Group. The GMG is a student organized and run spirit group. We are a large number of the student body that cheers for any Canyon Lake High School team. I also have Powerlifting honors. I am actively participating in FFA in Poultry judging and Job Interview teams. Being part of the men's choir singing bass has gave me much experience in the liberal arts. I am also the house manager for the drama department, often times running the tech and stage crew. I run Tech for dance concerts at our school. I have competed in numerous UIL competitions such as public speaking, modern oratory, editorials, journalism, and publicity. I have recieved many leadership and academic honors such as the RISE award, All State Academic, and Leadership awards. Im ranked 21 out of 174 in my class with a 93.229 unweighted GPA. I believe my versatility, work ethic, and leadership qualities make me a good candidate for this scholarship. Thank you for your consideration." |

04/20/2010 "I am a child of the Great Child Discipline Debate. My mother's sister did not believe in spanking her kids. My mother did!
I had post-traumatic stress disorder until I was 42 and got help. I flipped all over the place on discipline with my four children. They hated it. Even though I'm a Grad, Bachelor of Science in Psychology, I couldn't figure out a way to discipline that worked for my three sons and daughter.
However, scientists were doing long term studies on disciplines parents were using. In 1996, the first results started coming in.
Firm, kindly, consistent discipline with lots of verbal explanations seemed to work best.. How, with 4 rowdy youngsters? I racked my brains and then, Eureka! Child gates. Then another idea, more adult supervision.
My daughter had a little girl. We tried it. It worked. No spankings.
Smart kid! Now I need to go back and get my Master's Degree and write it all up. I need to graduate and help solve the Great Child Discipline Debate and be the Smart Cookie Graduate of the Year." |

04/20/2010 "I’ve been a Great American Grad four important times in my life…first in high school, then Army basic training, and twice in college. I have two Associate degrees and working towards my bachelor’s degree. I’m a GAG for many reasons…I’m the first in my family to graduate college and I’ve done it twice; I graduated Army basic training and helped protect this country for 8 years; I’m 37 years old, so it’s never too late to go back to school; I’m an Army wife whose husband is always gone, but I still find the time to brighten my horizons on top of all the other things that I have to do. Expanding my knowledge is not only for my benefit but also for the benefit of my three children…the more I know, the more they know. By being a volunteer for youth sports I’m in a position where children look up to me, therefore I want them, along with my own children, to know that knowledge is power. Lastly, without being a GAG I wouldn’t have been able to get as far in life as I have. I’m a true Great American Grad and I’m proud to be one." |

04/20/2010 "I am not a grad just yet my class is the class of 2011, but i’m still going to be a Great American Grad. I will be attending Georgia Tech and have had honor roll since 6th grade. Sure, middle school was not hard to get, but getting straight A’s in high school in very hard. All that I have learned is that being responsible and respectful helps make life easier on your hands. I am the daughter of a single mother of four who has taught me all that I need to know to take life at its’ best! I’m a member of student council, high school sorority, Spanish honors society, yearbook, and now cheerleading. I am an open-minded soul and never liked gossip in school at all. I help my community by giving back whenever possible. I have been neglected by best friends I thought would stay til’ the end, but one thing never changed the love for a good tasting Double Doozie!" |

04/20/2010 "Kayla Graham is your GEAT AMERICAN COOKIE GRAD. At the tender age of 9 her mother passes away very suddenly. Instead of playing the "wooo is me" card, she has taken life by the horns. She has a weighted GPA of 4.3. She has taken honors and AP courses her entire high school career. She has been section leader of her marching band and is a member of the National Honors Society . She has also worked a part time job and been very active in her church youth group during all of this. She has been accepted into NC State in the Elementary Education. There are only 60 on the country that are accepted into this program. I did not give birth to her, but I am extremely honored and proud to call her my daughter." |

04/20/2010 "I believe I am a GREAT AMERICAN GRAD, because I just graduated from Waggener Traditional High School in June of 2009, and I am currently a freshman at Spalding University right here in Louisville. I am aspiring to be a Special Education teacher of Elementary School, I have known what I wanted to do when I grow up since I was in the third grade and nothing or no one has yet to change my mind. I am a very well rounded student, I am a competitive gymnast, a preschool gymnastics coach and I am a community volunteer.I attend Westport Road Baptist Church every sunday and volunteer with them as well. I have volunteered with the American Red Cross on several occasions. Even when I am at my busiest I still make time for my family, friends and my “little sisters”. Another reason I believe I would be a great American grad scholarship nominee is because I am a fraternal twin and my mom is not only trying to put him through college but she is also trying to put me through college as well, and it is only freshman year. Well I thank you for your consideration of this outstanding scholarship opportunity.

04/19/2010 "My name is Monique Guidry and I am currently a senior at Beau Chene High School where I maintain a 4.0 and above GPA. I’m from Sunset Louisiana and I’ve been raised here all my life. I’m the daughter of John and Edith Guidry, and I am the youngest of four children. I have been an Honor Roll student for four years, and I have always strived to keep my grades up because I know how important it is to have excellent grades. As a student, I try to take part in as many activities as possible while I am still in high school and I have the opportunity. I have been on the dance team for two years, the soccer team for three years, a member of FBLA and BETA for four years, National Honor Society for three years, and FCCLA for one year. I have received various awards in soccer, and I am currently a member in FBLA who made it to the state competitions in the event, Entrepreneurship. I have always been an outgoing student who is involved in many activities, and I plan to remain this way as a college student. While I am still in high school, I plan to maintain my 4.0 GPA, so that I can graduate with honors and make all of my family and friends proud. When I graduate in May I will be starting my summer semester at University of Louisiana Lafayette (UL). I am in the Upward Bound Math Science program and it is because of this program that I will be fortunate enough to begin to further my education a semester early. Upward Bound will be there to guide me through my summer classes and help me with anything I need while starting my new college life. My major will be Pre-Pharmacy and in the fall I will be transferring to Xavier University where I have received a Merit based scholarship. My future plans are to graduate from Xavier University with a Doctorate in Pharmacy and either work in one of the big pharmacy chains such as CVS or to work in a laboratory testing new medicines. I feel like I am a Great American Grad because I do not limit myself to anything and I stay focused on everything I need to do to get where I want to be!" |

04/19/2010 "I could describe my hardships and obstacles that I have overcome in life that have led me to be the successful young lady that I am today, but compared to my ideals regarding the importance of family and an education, nothing else matters. My family that has such a tight bond; no bridge known to man could possibly surpass it in strength. We spend all major holidays together no matter the distance it takes, in order to be reunited with one another. There is some discrimination that Hispanic families follow one another in a cycle where no one goes to college, because those before them had not done so. My attachment to my family has made it difficult for me to see myself going to college and living on my own yet, I know it is something that must be done and my family will stand alongside me 100% of the way. In doing so, I will be the first of my family to graduate from college and will create a cycle for those around me to follow. My dream is to graduate from The University of Texas at Austin, become a Pediatrician and own my own clinic." |

04/19/2010 "Determination, Inspiration, and Perseverance! My undergraduate years were spent absorbing everything about other languages and cultures. Upon graduation, I moved my life to NYC and decided to get involved in industries that fascinated me. After 6 years of experience in grassroots marketing and event planning, managing Broadway and Off-Broadway shows, and planning digital media campaigns for a variety of industries, I feel I have been fortunate to have participated in integral facets of "American" culture. Currently in my first year (of 4) of graduate school to receive my doctorate in Audiology, I'm looking to apply my unique and fulfilling experiences to contribute to and innovate the field of Audiology. Hearing is an essential part of enjoying life, loved ones, and it also keeps you safe. I am looking forward to working hard for the next 3 1/3 years (yes we have summer classes) in order to have the opportunity to contribute to the expanding knowledge of science, and to make a difference in people's lives. I feel so fortunate to be an American and have the opportunity for schooling that not only benefits my expanding knowledge and skills, but allows me to give back to the rest of the population." |

04/18/2010 "I started out, in my undergraduate studies, thinking I could change the world and now I realize I can teach kids to help me change the world as I pursue my masters in elementary education. As part of my lifelong goal, I strive to be an outstanding teacher. In order to do so I had to realize my own potential in life as well as the significance of the lives that I influence. My goal is to teach my students to be the best they can be through all that they do. Just as Great American Cookies mission is to Share the Fun of Cookies, my mission is to Share the Fun of Learning. By being a Great American Grad, I can make an astonishing impact on our future by teaching and leading in a way that every student will learn and strive to be the next class of Great American Grads." |

04/18/2010 "Well I am a grad from Depew OK I grew up without family and I was told I would not graduate and as a teenager I had a full time job and I went to school I graduated and I have work since then I have three kids and a husband. We both work but my husband's work is really slow right now we was not able to pay rent for the month of April so my landlord is letting us paint a empty apartment for the rent. Our neighbor is fourteen and he needed to help his dad out with gas money so we are letting him help us paint and we paid him and we gave them some groceries even tho we did not have alot to give. My other neighbor is almost 90 and she had alot of plumbing work that had to be done so as a plumber my husband told her if she would buy the parts he would do the work free of charge so she did and he spent two days doing her work for her. I have been putting everybody before my family and I but sometimes that is what you have to do and it makes you feel so good. For the past year I have been tryn to clean up my credit so that I can in a few years get my kids a house and a yard to play in. Thank you for reading my letter

04/18/2010 "Graduation for me is the final culmination of 51 years. When I began college I rarely used a computer, in fact mother used say, “Computers are evil.” My education had many holes in the structure because I grew up in the 60s where educators tried all kinds of new techniques. After being married for 23 years and brought to another state for a quick divorce, I knew I needed to do something different so I would not end up on the street.
I began taking classes at the Junior College just to get my studies acceptable. I received a 4.0 Grade Point Average from the junior college. I applied to five different universities not knowing if I would be accepted. Did I have the kind of intelligence to study at a university?
I sold my piano for a computer, and quit my two jobs. Three years ago I was accepted to a major university and on May 8, 2010 this non-traditional 51 year old lady will graduate. I will be the first female in my family to receive a degree, not including my oldest daughter. I will walk across the stage and know that in America dreams still do come true. I embody what it means to be a Great American Grad." |

I have made many life long friends and love the support I get from my family. My Sophomore year was my redemption year because for awhile I was in a struggle , but I prevailed and now I have the chance to go to a four year university. I'm glad I had people to push me to get me where I am today. I am going to be a psychiatrist and that is what I am passionate about." |

04/17/2010 "I've always put other before myself. For the last 6 years I've been a part of the East Texas Animal Rescue Fund helping with finding homes for homeless pets. The summer right after my freshmen year of school I hurt my knee really bad and was fighting the pain and being in and out of the hospital wishing they could find out how to fix the pain. My senior year I went back to the hospital after I had more x-rays, MRIs and shots in my knee with the same pain. I ended up having to have knee surgery at the age of 17. It was hard keeping up on my grades in school during all of that, but I had the support of my family, friends, and teachers to help me through it all. Now Im back to working my two jobs trying to support myself. The $5,000 would be such an amazing honor, I wouldn't keep it all to my self the animal rescue would see part of it along with my parents to help pay for all my hospital bills. I want to prove to myself as well as others that no matter what happens in life theres a way to make it and keep on with your dreams, and you could help me with that too! I',m ready to make a change in my life as well as others! Thanks!!!" |

04/17/2010 "My mother - a Chiricahua Apache - scarped and saved for years so that I could fulfill my dream - to be a veterinarian in conservation medicine. It was a difficult 7 years for me because I see the world a little differently than the average college student, but it was well worth the struggle. There are few of us Chiricahuas left, so I have made it my life mission to bring pride to my family, my clan, and my tribe by rising to be the best and have the most impact in my field. After my loans are paid off, I plan to donate as much as I can to help those who are left behind so that they too may rise again and become the great people we once were." |

It seems like yesterday I was just beginning High school and now its that time to become a freshman again. I am blessed to have attended a private school. I have made many life long friends and love the support I get from my family. My Sophomore year was a tough year academically, but I prevailed and now I have the chance to go to a four year university. I'm glad I had people to push me to get me where I am today. I want to go into the fashion industry. I'm really passionate about it and hopeful one day I will see where that carries me." |

04/17/2010 "From the very beginning I have been working to reach my goals.
I believe in myself and I will earn my degree." |

04/17/2010 "I am a lifelong Great American Grad because my dear, ultra-supportive Mom lacks a cooking gene. She’s always emphasized learning, and encouraged my sometimes lofty dreams. I am now working toward my PhD, and passionately appreciate the importance of education and giving back - volunteering for many organizations including Students Working Against Tobacco, MADD, Big Brothers, and more.
However, the kitchen has always been a perilous place at home. Even microwave popcorn has proven a fire hazard. Our freezer is so packed with frozen meals, that I – and all of our pets – learned young to run and duck at the slightest sound of something just beginning to slide. We all knew that a TV dinner avalanche was about to cascade from the freezer, and no one was safe from falling debris! Visitors to our home always marveled at and wondered about our family’s super-fast reflexes…
Therefore, important occasions could not be trusted to Mom’s kitchen. Instead, to ensure that every birthday and graduation was happy and enjoyed without any fires or injuries, we always celebrated with a Great American Cookie Cake. They are fun and delicious, reduce party stress, and Great American Cookies save lives!" |

04/17/2010 "I didn't want to go to college. My parents begged me to apply and after enough lecturing, I did. I was surprised when I received my acceptance letter in the mail from the University of New Mexico, followed by a four-year scholarship. In August of 2005, I packed up my truck and hit the road---a nineteen-hour drive from Pearland, Texas.
After my first year, I decided to move back home to attend a school less expensive and closer to my family. I thought I was coming back to friends and good times, but I was greeted by my parents and a "you need to find your own place" instead. I lost all motivation and was kicked out of school from a low GPA. I was humiliated to tell my dad, but I knew I had to since he was paying for my education.
My dad was angry at first, but he still mentioned the best idea---apply to his alma mater. I was officially accepted to Houston Baptist University in May of 2007, and after three years of non-stop, full-time school, I am proud to say I will receive my Bachelor's Degree on May 8, 2010, at 9:30 AM." |

04/16/2010 "I feel that I am a Great American Grad because being a Great American is what I strive to be. I am a senior in high school and going to attend college to study Criminal Justice. My goal is to become a FBI Agent.
I want to serve my country and Americans in this way. Being a Great American has to involve service to others. That is something I take very seriously and look forward to doing. I also enjoy serving youth by coaching , umpiring and thhis summer being a camp councilor for the YMCA. One thing for sure is that I will never NOT crave The Great American Birthday Cookie. It has been in place of a birthday cake for me since I was 6 years old. Your cookies are the best!" |

04/16/2010 "Have you ever tasted the 3 layers on the chocolate chip double doozie? There are so many textures, taste & colors. Exactly like life! All the ingredients that goes into a Great American chocolate chip cookie reminds me of the recipe of life. I have always wanted to help people & so becoming a doctor was a very logical choice for me. Sometimes the cost of things can over shadow ones hope & dreams.... NOT MINE! I work several jobs & have attended junior college to lessen the cost of my education. So like the savoring taste of that soft, warm chocolate chip doozie with the ultimate icing center; life is always what you make of it & can come out as perfect at the Great American chocolate chip cookie!" |

04/16/2010 "I am a 32 year old mother of two, soon to be three (5 year old daugher and a 19 month old son). I have been happily married for six years. I have struggled to get through college with a couple of major changes, moving, etc. I have thought about just throwing in the towel several times, but ultimately I am not a quiter. After having my daughter I decided to drop my full time student status at a local university where I graduted with an AS in P.R./Advertising in 2008 while I was 5 months pregnant with our son. I decided that this was not enough for me so I returned to the university and complete my B.A. in Mass Communications and I am happy to say with only two classes remaining I will graduate this December only two months after having our third child. I want to make sure that I am an example to my children not to let anything stand in there way and always work towards their goals and they can accomplish them." |

04/16/2010 "I am a happily married 29 year-old mother of two (7 year old daughter and 2 year old son), working forty hours per week. My husband is in education, coaches, and is busy in the evenings for most of the year. Thus making it hard for me to stay on top of everything. I love my children to death and make it a point to not work on homework when it is “Mom” time. My first love and choice would be to stay home with the kids and do daycare, but financially at this time it isn’t possible.
I have one two-year degree and recently finished one full year of college credits. I will finish my second two-year degree online. Online is the only way I can finish my degree, even though it is often more expensive. I am finishing my degree so that I can pursue higher education in the near future. I have not decided my exact choice of four-year degree or school after this semester, but I will be graduating after finishing my last class this summer. I have worked hard and achieved higher grades than the first time I went to college." |

04/16/2010 "My mother’s a single parent to three kids. My dad is in and out of jail, so he has never really been in my life. My mom had to provide for her child so she did not complete college. I don’t want to continue that cycle. I know that if I want anything I have to work for it. The most important thing to do is to get an education so that’s what I’ve done and I’m looking forward to continue doing so. I’m an A and B honor roll student that comes to school with nothing but my future in mind. Although I sometimes struggle with the things that are going on at home I don’t let it get me down enough to hinder my grades. I am determined to go to college and succeed. Without the motivation you cannot accomplish anything. I use my situation as the fuel to my determination. I constantly come face to face with unfortunate events; from getting kicked out of the house by my mom to moving from pillar to post for shelter and love. Through all of that I still maintain my grades and stay at the top of my class with a GPA of a 3.43. I feel like I deserve this award, for if I were awarded it I would most definitely not waste it. I would handle my business to further my own growth as well as the growth of my school." |

04/16/2010 "As a young girl, I spent endless hours neglected and devastated by childhood experiences. The emotional scars left me confused and broken. Despite the pain I felt, I had a dream to graduate high school and attend college. I had a passion for books and I loved learning. During my parent’s marital struggles, we moved out of state. I attended four different high schools in my senior year alone. Left with distant relatives to care for me, I felt completely abandoned. No one seemed concerned if I finished school. Each day was sheer determination on my part to go to school, complete my homework and make it to graduation day. I paid the price, and my initiative earned me a high school diploma.
After completing a year of coursework at community college, I was in great emotional pain. I did not realize I was suffering from the effects of my past. A notable moment occurred when I made a decision to pursue my recovery. Here I am fifteen years later. I feel like I have my life back. I love the person that I am, and I am free from the emotional baggage. My dream is complete my degree." |

She took me out and I did Independent Study. I went from failing to straight A's and not missing anymoreschool cause I felt safe. My last year i went to continuation Highschool and continued my success. I gained new friends and confidence. My mom was my hero and I am grateful to her." |
