06/01/2009 "I am nominating my husband. It has been amazing to see him as he has transitioned into being a father to our 2 year old son. He has patience, love, and kindness, that are unending even though our son is at an age that can be very trying. I am very thankful that our son will have the blessing of having a dad who can share life with him. My father passed away when I was a young child, so I look forward to watching the father/child relationship through the years. As is typical in many households, my husband is very selfless and always puts our needs first. He often doesn't get the recognition that he deserves, so I thank you for the chance to nominate him for this contest Thanks also for recognizing all the Great American Dads out there. "

06/01/2009 "My dad is the most unselfish and giving person I know. My parents are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year and through it all he has been a rock. They adopted 6 children (all of us from different biological families) and fostered 31 children over the years. That put a lot of financial strain on them. My dad continued to go to work everyday and provide for us to the best of his ability. He has been at the same job for over 30 years and should be retired but finances won't allow it yet. He has sacrificed so much to make sure the rest of us had what we needed/wanted. For as long as I can remember my dad has always driven the "old" car and let my mom drive the better one. He never complained, he just did whatever was necessary. I can't think of a more deserving person than someone who would give six children a loving home and help 31 others until they found a home. In a world as selfish as ours is today, he is a true hero. Jennifer Findlay, Ohio "

06/01/2009 "My dad has been repairing cars since he was a little boy. He owns a shop and has drag raced for thirty-plus years. On my first trip ever to the race track I was only one week old. When I was about six, my mother noticed that my birth date was the racing number that Dad had been using for over twenty years. I guess I was destined to race. When I was nine my dad took me out to the races to start running Junior Dragsters. I loved it! I got my license to compete in races, but the next time we went out there I cried and begged him not to make me do it. So we turned around and left. Later I got my driver's license and Dad and I built my first car… a '66 Ford Mustang. I begged him to take me out to the track again so I could race. He did, and I am hooked! Dad built my race car, and I have been racing ever since. I currently have a 10-second car that my dad and I spend a lot of time on. We clean it, tune it and race it. I value these great times with Dad, learning all he knows that he is so willing to pass on to me."

06/01/2009 "I don't know about you but i have a great dad. I could tell you all these lies about how great he is, but i'm not going to this will all be the truth. My dad works hard at his company to keep them out of trouble. His job can be stressful but he always has a smile on his face when he or I get home. Even though me and my brothers always don't he always lightens up our day. My dad is the cook in our family. His nickname is chef daddy (hahahaha thats a little joke between us.) We all love him so much. I don't know what we would do without him. "

06/01/2009 " My Dad is a wonderful unselfish person. He retired and is now a volunteer fireman, going on dangerous missions to rescue people. He is also a member of the volunteer ambulance corps in town and goes out every night during the wee hours to save lives. Last year, he went on over 230 calls and saved dozens of people. He gives blood every year. He is also a volunteer at town hall for the assessment review board. In his "spare" time, he volunteers to help senior citizens in need, with chores around their house. He even visits sick seniors in the hospital. I love my Dad, and couldn't think of a better person in town than my Dad. He deserves to win a prize!"

06/01/2009 "We grew up in the 1960s and 1970s, when dads were not expected to do much more than provide food, shelter and protection to their daughters. Fortunately, someone forgot to tell our dad. He always supported our plans, no matter how bizarre they might seem to others. When I was 10, I got an idea to make pencil holders out of the plastic containers my mom's hose came in. This involved melting the tops to create a hole and so that the plastic would flow down in an cool manner. My father did not do this for me. Instead, he carefully taught me how to use a handheld blowtorch. When I understood completely, he stepped into the house. He could still quickly come to my aid (I suspect now that he watched through the window) but I was doing it by myself. The pencil holders were a big success. More importantly, when someone says I cannot do something, my first response is, "Oh, but I CAN!". Thank you!"

06/01/2009 "When I was a child my parents worked opposite shifts so I never had a babysitter and my father raised me as much as my mother did. He dressed me every morning, even though he was colorblind. I survived, slightly fashion challenged, but I knew I was loved. He loved my mother with his whole being. When she suffered with cancer for 11 years, he took care of her and never once complained. Every night they kissed eachother goodnight and said I love you. She passed away when they were 52. He mourned her by visiting her grave every day for years. Recently I had my own health issues and was hospitalized for a week. He came from Pennsylvania to California for 10 days to help me and fixed many things around my house. He can figure out how to fix anything even though he had no “formal” training. He says “I love you” every time we speak on the phone and I know he means it. At 75 he plays golf and frequents the amusement park and helps out his 4 siblings. He is an amazing man, and I am so proud and blessed to call him Daddy. "
